Velma "Vel" M. Hanzel, 76, of Swatara Township, died Thursday, March 23, 2023 in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was a retired collector for The Credit Bureau of Greater Harrisburg, a member of many of Steelton''s social clubs and enjoyed gardening, especially taking care of her roses.

Velma was the daughter of the late Joseph and Esther Clark Hanzel, was preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen Proudfoot and two nephews, Joseph P. Hanzel, III and David Proudfoot. She is survived by one daughter, Wendy Sabathne; one son, Brian Sabathne; three grandsons, Michael, Clayton and Jeremy; 3 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Aidyn and Londyn; one brother, Joseph P. Hanzel Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews, especially Susan Stanisic.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 4:00 pm in the Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 357 S. Harrisburg St., Oberlin PA. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the funeral home.
