Raymond E. Penica, 93, of Rutherford, passed away at home surrounded by family on Thursday, October 16, 2025. Born in Enhaut, PA on October 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Elizabeth J. (Weiss) Penica. He was the loving husband of Heather G. (McKay) Penica, with whom he shared 72 years of marriage.
Ray graduated from the former Catholic High School with the class of 1949. He worked for Bethlehem Steel as a Lathe Operator until his retirement. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church in Rutherford.
Ray loved gardening, home projects, and helping others with their remodeling projects. He enjoyed making bird houses and airplanes and decorating his garden. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by his children, John R. Penica and his wife Wendy of Middletown, Pastor James J. Penica and his wife Janet of Newport, Janet E. Anderson and her husband David of Lewisberry, and Susan M. Dunkle and her husband Don of Camp Hill; brother Joseph V. Penica of Linglestown; sisters Rosalie M. Kieffer and husband Ken of York, and Loretta J. Myer and husband Grant of Coatesville, PA; and grandchildren Jay G. Penica (Dyana), Brent M. Penica (Katie), Brian J. Penica (Katie), Joshua A. Anderson (Mary), Kristen Wendle (Ethan), Sarah Romine (Micah), Karen Priego (Armando), Heidi Ranpaheli (JB), and Yvonne McKenzie (Ben); as well 22 great-grandchildren, several cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 1, 2025 in Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 357 S Harrisburg Street, Oberlin, PA 17113, with Pastors Terry Brosius and James Penica officiating. A Visitation will take place in the funeral home prior to service from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family.
