Monica F. (Chernick) Burd

Monica F. (Chernick) Burd, 88, of Harrisburg, passed away at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital on Monday, July 21, 2025. Born on June 29, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Mary Gornik Chernick Kaiser. She was the loving wife of the late Elmer A. Burd, who passed away in 2022.

Monica graduated from Steelton High School in the Class of 1955. She was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Parish. Most of all, she was a loving wife and mother and will be missed by all. She worked at AMP, Inc. for over 50 years before retiring.

Monica is survived by her daughter, Brenda Burd and her boyfriend Earl E. May, Jr.; cousins Rodney Gornik and Marilyn Kinney; and nieces Cindy Forbes, Barbbie Yates, and Karen Tonks; as well as a larger extended family. In addition to her husband and mother, she was preceded in death by her stepfather John Kaiser; sister Mary Kepler; and brother Peter Chernick.

A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 1, 2025 in Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 357 S Harrisburg Street, Oberlin, PA 17113. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. A Viewing will be held in the funeral home prior to service from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM.
