With love and gratitude, we share the passing of our beloved aunt, Mary Lescanec (nee Mrljak), who departed this life peacefully on July 18, 2025, at the age of 97. She was the last surviving of eleven children. Her life, which spanned nearly a century demonstrated a remarkable woman whose wisdom, resilience, sense of style and grace touched generations.
Born on August 28, 1927, in Bressler, PA, the daughter of the late John and Catherine Ribaric Mrljak. She was raised in a loving household, where she learned early the value of hard work and family. She retired from the Federal Government and was active in her church, a member of the National Council of Catholic Women, the Holy Rosary Society, and many other volunteer organizations.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Edward Lescanec, together sharing the love of traveling. She outlived her ten brothers and sisters: Anthony, John, Michael, Joseph and Nicholas Mrljak and Katherine Furjanic, Amelia Mrljak, Barbara Zapcic, Helen Culina and Pauline Labashousky.
She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great -nieces and nephews. Her long life was a testament to her strong faith and family bonds. We were lucky to have her for as long as we did.
The family is especially grateful to the wonderful nurses and staff of Messiah Village. We warmly and graciously thank them for their sincere compassion, kindness and tender care while she resided there.
Mary's long and meaningful life reminds everyone to cherish every moment and the people who make those moments special. Her presence may be gone, but her spirit, love, and influence will continue to guide and inspire.
