Karen Marie Barna, 68, of Harrisburg died at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Radich) Barna.

Karen had been a Sister, Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary for 34 years. She taught elementary school in 5 different Catholic dioceses. During that time, she became a devoted full-time caregiver for her mother for 10 years. After her mother’s passing, and with the blessing of her I.H.M. Community, she left the Order and taught as a lay teacher at St. Margaret Mary School. Her teaching years totaled 30 in all.

She is survived by 4 brothers and 2 sisters: John, Robert, Michael, Carl, Joanne, and Suzanne. She was preceded in death by Joseph and Christine.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Friday, November 21, 2025 in St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, 4000 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. A Visitation will be held in the church prior to Mass from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Sisters of I.H.M., 1 Our Lady Circle, Malvern, PA 19355.
