Joseph was born on July 5, 1943, and grew up on the West Side of Steelton, PA. He was the son of Joseph Rudolph and Anna S. Sovich Egresits. He graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in 1962 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as an Air Policeman. He served in the U.S. and abroad, earning an honorable discharge in 1968.
