Obituary

John Louis “Globie” Golob, of Enhaut, Pennsylvania, departed this life peacefully on January 21, 2026, at the age of 82. A lifelong resident of Enhaut, John was born there in his childhood home on April 5, 1943, the son of the late John William Golob and Rose Mary Golob (Svec).

A 1962 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School, John built a career defined by hard work, reliability, and loyalty. He retired in 2005 after nearly 35 years as an Operator with the Local 542 Independent Union of Operating Engineers where he never missed a single day of work or met a machine he couldn't operate. It was impossible to go on a drive with him anywhere without him proudly reminding you, "I dug the footers for that building," or "I paved this road", followed by an amusing story about his time working at that particular jobsite or roadway, involving one of the many lifelong friends he made in his career. John also earned the affectionate title of “The Junk Man” - always keeping his eyes peeled along the roadside for a scrap treasure ready to be separated and hauled to the junkyard when the market was right. There wasn't a piece of metal he couldn't manhandle with seemingly superhuman strength. If you're from the neighborhood, you've probably seen him cruising down Front Street in Steelton with a load of scrap, sporting his "Globie grin", passing out friendly head nods along the way.A fierce community man, John often proclaimed himself as “Mayor of Enhaut” - a fitting title for someone who seemed to know, and care about everyone. His generosity, quick wit, and love for conversation were as much a part of the town as the streets he called home. A lifetime member of the Penn Harris Gun Club, John cherished his time there - swapping stories and sharing laughs over a drink, never missing a chance to visit and bond with friends.Outside of work, John’s heart belonged to the great outdoors. An avid hunter, fisherman, and collector, he had a lifelong passion for the mountains of Driftwood, Pennsylvania, where he found true peace and happiness through the connections with nature and the friends he made there. His greatest joys came from a relaxing drive through the Wilds or when friends stopped by for a visit and shared a good laugh over a drink where he'd propose his classic toast, "Here's to ya." John's love for the outdoors was reflected in his impressive array of hunting and fishing memorabilia, curated over decades of visits to auctions, flea markets, and sales. He took great pride in his collection and the relationships he made through the hobby.John is survived by his children, Susan Warner (Golob), John Stephen Golob, Joshua Golob, and his wife Amy, Jordan Golob, and his wife Heather, and Johnna Kelly (Golob) and her husband Chris; and his sisters that he cherished dearly - Rose Marie Hurban, Virginia Dudziak, Josephine McAnulty, Elizabeth Golob, Cecilia Golob, and Deborah Faul; as well as dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Louise Peiffer and his grandson Timothy Warner. "Here’s to ya", Globie — a life well-lived, a man well-loved.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Monday, February 2, 2026 at St. Catherine Labouré Roman Catholic Church, 4000 Derry St, Harrisburg, with Rev. Drew Tanguay celebrating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. A Viewing will be held prior to mass in Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 S. Harrisburg St. Oberlin, PA from 9:30-11:30 AM.
