John S. Beck, 84, of Harrisburg, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2026, at home with his caring wife of 54 years Pamilla Ann (Archer) Beck.
Born October 15, 1941 in the Bronx, NY to the late John W. and Mary (Crevar) Beck. John’s family moved to Steelton and he attended S.H.H.S. (class of 59), also a graduate from Mansfield University (class of 63).
John is preceded in death by his brother William Beck, and niece Jennifer.
Surviving are his 4 children, Steven, Jody, John and James Beck; and 6 grandchildren, Olivia, Julius, Mia, Zaila, Phinias, and Charles.
John was a retired history teacher for 39 years and an assistant football coach at William Penn, John Harris and Steelton-Highspire High Schools including Lebanon Valley College. He was a head track and field coach, Athletic Director and head football coach for 5 years at Steelton-Highspire High School.
John was a board member of I.O. Silver foundation.
He was a member of the, former First Presbyterian Church in Steelton, Old Timer’s Assoc., Highspire Historical Society, Capital Chapter of PA Sports Hall of Fame (which he was an inductee), S.H.H.S. class of 59 reunion committee.
John wrote and taught the local history program at S.H.H.S. and wrote S.H. sports/history trivia book. John was also involved in theater.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 11:00AM at Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 357 S. Harrisburg St, Oberlin, PA 17113. A Visitation will take place in the funeral home prior to service from 10:00 AM-11:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to I.O. Silver Foundation benefiting the Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute, 4307 S. Victoria Way, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
