Janis Mae (Koup) Aiken, 88, of Oberlin, passed away at home on Friday, May 8, 2026. Born in Penbrook on January 12, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Ralph E. and Mildred B. (Fasolt) Koup. She was the widow of the late George A. Aiken, who preceded her in death in 2010. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Larry L. Koup.
Janis was a graduate of Swatara High School in 1955, the school’s final graduating class. She continued having monthly breakfasts with her classmates at The Brownstone Café throughout her life. She worked as a Medical Secretary and Office Manager for several private medical practices until her retirement. She was a faithful and active member of Salem Lutheran Church from the age of 4.
Janis enjoyed many hobbies, including knitting, playing piano, gardening, bird watching, and baking her own bread. She loved both Pennsylvania and National history and was an avid reader. Most of all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed.
Janis is survived by her sons, Michael Aiken and his wife Carolyn, and Robert Aiken and his wife Sandy; grandchildren Aaron Aiken and his wife Lindsay, Stephen Aiken and his wife Sarah, and Christeena Aiken; and great-grandchildren Mozzie, Everett, and Elsie; as well as a larger extended family.
A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Salem Lutheran Church, 1152 Main Street, Oberlin, PA 17113. A Visitation will be held in the church prior to the service from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Food Bank at Salem Lutheran Church at the address above, or to Hospice of Central PA at www.hospiceofcentralpa.org
