Obituary

George H. Kahler, cherished father, father-in-law, grandfather, and friend went to be with Jesus on January 8, 2026 at the age of 90. He was born and raised in Steelton, PA, on June 26, 1935 to the late Margaret (Raudenski) and George Kahler.

After retiring from Gannett Fleming following 36 years as an administrator, George devoted himself to his love of nature. Each spring, he demonstrated his talent for gardening through the flowers he carefully planted and tended, growing the most impressive garden on the block. That passion began early in life, inspired by his grandfather and nurtured during his years working side-by-side with his in-laws, who he loved dearly, at Blanche's Flower Shop in Steelton, Pennsylvania.

An avid reader, George loved visiting the library in search of his next mystery or suspense novel and often stayed up late, fully immersed in the stories he couldn't put down.

An accomplished cook and baker, George was always debating which recipe to try next. His crockpot dinners and Christmas cookies were eagerly shared among his friends and family.

A devoted music lover, George amassed an impressive collection of classical music. Many mornings, his children were awakened by the booming sounds of opera or musical performances playing throughout the house. He also attended the Kennedy Center on numerous occasions, delighting in seeing the latest productions.

George is survived by his daughter Margaret Louise Kahler; son George Angelo Kahler and his wife, Kathy; beloved grandson Zachary Alexander Kahler; stepsister Shirley Ritter; and a large extended family.

A celebration of George's life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Bethesda Mission at www.bethesdamission.org <http://www.bethesdamission.org> or to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org <http://www.heart.org>.
