Donald H. "Don" Horner, Sr.

Donald H. Horner, Sr., 89, of Bressler, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, October 3, 2025. Born in Oberlin, he was the son of the late Milton and Ida (Haas) Horner. He was the loving husband of the late Joyce (Zeigler) Horner, with whom he celebrated 69 years of marriage.

Don graduated from Swatara High School with the class of 1954 and continued to live a life of service. He served as a Corporal in the US Marine Corps. He served his community in several positions, including as Swatara Township Commissioner, the Dauphin County Planning Commission with a number of years as Chairman, the Tri-County Planning Commission with a number of years as Chairman, Harrisburg Area Transportation Study (HATS), the Friendship Fire Company of Bressler where he served as Chief, and the Citizens Fire Company of Oberlin. He was a member of the former St. John the Evangelist Church and then became a member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish. He retired from Swatara Township as a Code Enforcement Director after 30 years.

Don was a life member of the National Rifle Association, the Bressler Lion’s Club, and the Antique Auto Association. He was a devoted family man and especially enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved going to his beach house in Slaughter Beach, DE or his farm in Huntingdon County, PA.

Don is survived by his sons Donald H. Horner, Jr. (Donell), Patrick J. Horner, Sr. (Lenore), and Jason A. Horner; grandchildren Donald H. Horner, III (Kristen), Ashley Jarl (Doug), Patrick J. Horner, Jr., and Lianna Horner; and his great-grandchildren Alejandro, Antonio, and Penelope Jarl, and Callie Horner.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 in Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 357 S Harrisburg Street, Oberlin, PA 17113. A Viewing will take place in the funeral home prior to service from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family.
