Charles James “Jim” Lang, 77, of Bressler, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital. Born on October 15, 1947 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Charles and Charlotte (Stum) Lang.
Jim graduated from Central Dauphin East High School, years later attending York College, earning a degree in Criminal Justice.
Jim jointed the US Army in 1967, and served his time in Germany during the Vietnam War era.
Jim married Kathy (Bettinger) Lang on March 26, 1977 in Enhaut, PA. Jim and Kathy enjoyed 48 years of marriage until his death.
Jim was employed as a Trooper with the Pennsylvania State Police for 23 years until his retirement in 1993.
Jim especially loved coaching boys baseball and basketball. He served as a proud coach for dozens of young men over his years, coaching for community youth teams and for Swatara Junior High School.
Jim served as a Swatara Township Commissioner for two elected terms in the early 2000’s. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the VFW, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and the Penn Harris Gun Club.
Remaining to cherish Jim’s memory are his spouse, Kathy; children Steven Michael and Kiven and his wife Ginelle; grandchildren Liam, Andrew, Audrey, Colin, Declan, and Jasper; brother Robert; sister, Deborah; and eight nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 29, 2025 in Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 357 S Harrisburg Street, Oberlin, PA 17113. Burial will follow at Churchville Cemetery. A Visitation will be held in the funeral home prior to service from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM.
