Andrew James “Andy” Mahalchick, 64, of Steelton, passed away on Friday, April 10th, 2026 at UPMC West Shore Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Harrisburg March 5, 1962, he was the son of the late Andrew and Dorothy (Sieb) Mahalchick. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Steven Mahalchick in 2025.
Andy dedicated his life to public service. He was a 911 dispatcher for 23 years for Dauphin County Emergency Management Agency, until his retirement in 2019. He was an active firefighter and life member, volunteering at Steelton Fire Department, where he was Deputy Chief 501. He was also a life member of Citizen’s Fire Company #1 of Oberlin, Company 43. Andy was the EMS Chief of the former Tri-Community Ambulance Association, Company 8. He was also an EMS provider with the former Harrisburg River Rescue.
Andy was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout with bronze palm. He volunteered with Hidden Valley Scout Reservation for over 30 years, before becoming the Camp Ranger on their staff. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors and would go camping, boating, and fishing with family and friends. He was a large presence in the Steelton Community and will be deeply missed by many.
Andy is survived by his son, James Mahalchick; several cousins, including Tom Murray, who was like a brother; best friend/sister Amy Berry; and his family within the Steelton Fire Department, EMS Services, and the Boy Scouts.
Funeral Services will take place at 12:00 PM on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 357 S. Harrisburg Street, Oberlin, Pa 17113. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. A viewing will be held in the funeral home prior to the service from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
