In Loving Memory....
Joseph J. Papandrea, Sr., 95, of Rutherford, died Thursday, February 9, 2012 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a retired guard at the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot and was a graduate of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parochial School and Harrisburg Catholic High School Class of 1933, where he played on the football team. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, recipient of the Purple Heart, and a member of St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, Swatara Twp., VFW Post 1213, Rutherford, and the Disabled American Veterans.
Joe was the son of the late Salvatore and Annie Buccieri Papandrea and is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Sophie Macut Papandrea; one son, Joseph J. Papandrea, Jr. and his wife, Janice of Harrisburg; one daughter, Josie M. Gallagher and her husband, James of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Michael, Joey, and Skippy Gallagher and Jill Papandrea Baglanis; two great grandchildren, Ryan and Ian Gallagher; one brother, Augustus Papandrea, Sr. of Harrisburg; three sisters, Minnie Papandrea of Harrisburg, Jennie Motter of Moscow, and Helen Papandrea of Harrisburg; several nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by one brother, Samuel Papandrea and two sisters, Mary Breski and Pauline Rose.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 12 Noon in St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Neil S. Sullivan, his Pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery with military honors provided by the Dauphin County Honor Guard. A viewing will be held on Monday from 10:30 am until 12 Noon in his church. Arrangements are being handled by Wiedeman Funeral Home, Steelton.
