Rita C. Diffendall Swartley, 87, of Steelton, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 in Spring Creek Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Swatara Township.

She was the former Secretary to the Principal of Harrisburg Catholic High School and a former Sales Clerk at Pomeroy's Department Store, Harrisburg.

She was a member of the former St. James Roman Catholic Church, Steelton and Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish.

Rita was the daughter of the late James and Bertha Yestadt Diffendall and the widow of Harold E. Swartley. She is survived by one daughter, Annmarie Pisle and her husband, Sam of Steelton; one brother, John Diffendall of Middletown; one sister, Frances Whisler of Lower Paxton Twp.; two grandchildren, Amber and Sean Pisle. Rita was preceded in death by one sister, Mary B. Neubaum.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Prince of Peace-Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons, her pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Swatara Twp. A viewing will be held on Monday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. in Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 S. Second St., Steelton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish, 815 S. Second St., Steelton, PA 17113.
