Helen Gorse Slabonik, 81, of Susquehanna Township, went to the arms of God the Father on Thursday, June 24, 2010. She was a homemaker, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a graduate of Susquehanna Township High School, Class of 1947; devout Roman Catholic and member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish, Steelton and the former St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Steelton. Helen was the daughter of the late John and Katherine Simcic Gorse and was preceded in death by four sisters, four brothers, and two grandsons, Kelly and James Salinger. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William Stix Slabonik and her children, Helen Marie Richards and husband Hiram, Kathleen Ann Nenninger and husband Paul, William Mark Slabonik and wife Patricia, James Richard Slabonik, Mary Slabonik Sill, Agnes Slabonik, John Gorse Slabonik & wife Margo, Barbara Jean Reitz and husband Stephen, Theresa Marie Salinger and husband David, Mark Christopher Slabonik and wife Maria, Frances Inez Slabonik, Matthew Paul Slabonik and wife Linda, Anne Marie Slabonik, Luke Joseph Slabonik and wife Kelly; her grandchildren, Julie Bartels, Rebecca and Joseph Nenninger, David Slabonik & wife Rachel, Daniel, Katherine, Angela, Jacob, Sara, Emily, Suzanne and Nicole Slabonik, Jessica Towson & husband Matthew, Erin Brady & husband Brian, Stephanie and Jayson Reitz, Katherine Steckbeck & husband Adam, Michael, Hannah and Joshua Salinger, Tracie and Sean Houston; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob and Abrielle Bartels, Ramona Slabonik, Julia, Charlotte and Lillian Towson; one brother, Peter Gorse and wife Kathleen; close family friends, Gina Chiloro and Lori Richardson; longtime caregiver and niece, Cheryl Slabonik; numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 28, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in Prince of Peace Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Steelton, with Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons, Pastor, Celebrant. Burial in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Viewings will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. 10:00 a.m. in the Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 S. Second Street, Steelton. Recitation of the Rosary will be on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Prince of Peace Parish, 815 South Second Street, Steelton, PA 17113 or Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
