Leon E. Motter


Leon E. Motter (a.k.a. Lee or Barney), 81, of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Golden Living Center-Blue Ridge Mountain, Harrisburg.

He attended John Harris High School , was an Army veteran of World War II, and a graduate of Brooks Institute of Photography. He was a retired employee of the Commonwealth of PA , Dept. of Environmental Resources, wherein he was a Photographic Specialist.

He was a multi-talented/faceted photographer and owned and operated “Motter's Portrait and Custom Framing Studio” for many years. In earlier years, he was an avid tennis player, enjoyed weight lifting and was a member of Harrisburg Hunters and Anglers.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed horse races and casino gambling. In most recent years, he loved playing a good, no-nonsense game of poker with his family and close friends.

Leon was the son of the late Miles and Esther Weaver Motter. He is survived by his son, Michael Motter and his partner, JoAnn Overby; daughters, Lori Toro and her husband, Manuel, Cheryl Motter, and Lisa Petrascu and her husband, Jimmy; and a surrogate son, William Hackenberger. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Casey, Lil' Manny, Jimmy and Annalisa. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Motter. His family loves him and wishes him eternal peace.

Graveside service and burial with full military honors will be held at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Rev. Peter H. Kuebler officiating. A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in Fackler-Wiedeman Funeral Home, 23 rd & Derry Sts., Harrisburg .
