Dorothy Yanich Matich


Dorothy Yanich Matich, 90, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Courtyard Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center , where she was a resident.

Dorothy was born in Steelton , PA on December 16, 1919. She was the widow of James Matich and the daughter of the late Rade and Ana Yanich. She was predeceased by her older brothers: Milan , Peter (Helen), Steve, Nicholas (Mildred), Ben and Daniel (Marian). She is survived by her devoted daughter, Joyce Matich of Steelton, with whom she resided until her recent illness; her sisters-in-law, Viola Yanich and Mary Yanich of Steelton and Evelyn Yanich of Harrisburg; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews; and her Kumovi Starcevich, Yezdimir and Petkovich Families.

Dorothy was a steward of St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church, Oberlin, a charter member of her beloved Serbian Singing Society Marinkovich, a charter member of St. Nicholas Mothers' Club, and a member and Past President of the Circle of Serbian Sisters, a member of St. Nicholas Serbian American Civic and Educational Club, and the St. Nicholas Seniors. She attended Steelton High School and was employed as a presser in a local coat factory before her marriage to Jim. She and Jim lived for a short time in his hometown of Philadelphia before moving back to Steelton.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 12 Noon in St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church with Very Rev. Stavrofor Srboljub Jockovich, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Churchville Cemetery , Oberlin. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 am until 12 Noon in her church. Arrangements are being handled by Wiedeman Funeral Home, Steelton.
