Richard E. “Whitey” Knol, 73, of Susquehanna Township , died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 in Arden Courts. He was a retired 6 th grade school teacher with the Central Dauphin School District, graduate of John Harris High School Class of 1954, earned his BS and Masters Degrees in Education from Shippensburg University, a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Paxtang, life member of Progress Fire Co. Home Assn., a US Marine Corps veteran, member of American Legion Post 730, Penbrook and PA Sports Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by one brother, Claude Knol, Jr. and is survived by his wife, Nancy Wenrich Knol; two daughters, Kimberly Knol of Aspen CO and Kathy Knol Shatzer and husband, Michael of Highlands Ranch, CO; one brother, John R. Knol and wife, Ruth of Palmyra; two sisters, Ann Wevodau of Elkton, MD and Rosemary Walmer and husband, Jack of Harrisburg; two grandsons, Derek M. and Dean A. Shatzer; and his former wife, Nancy Lomell Knol; numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 11:00 am in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3700 Rutherford St. , Swatara Twp. with Rev. Kathleen J. Baker, his Pastor, officiating. Burial with full military honors will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery . A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 7:00 until 9:00 pm in the Chapel of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Arrangements are being handled by Fackler-Wiedeman Funeral Home, Harrisburg . In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Assn., South Central PA Chapter, 3544 No. Progress Ave., Suite 205 , Harrisburg , PA 17110 or his church at 3700 Rutherford St . , Harrisburg , PA 17111 .
