Doris H. Jenkins, 95, died Monday, March 29, 2010 in Golden Living Center , Camp Hill. She was born September 2, 1914 in Harrisburg , the daughter of the late Lewis P. and Ruth Hoverter Jenkins and was the last of her immediate family. A grandfather, George A. Hoverter, was the Mayor of Harrisburg from 1920 until 1936 and her mother, a well known organist in the Harrisburg area, died in 1993 at the age of 102. Aside from a few years in Florida , Doris lived her entire life in Camp Hill and the Harrisburg area. In her earlier years, she enjoyed summers at Mt. Gretna . She ended her working career at the PA Council of the Arts, the agency responsible for promoting the arts in the Commonwealth. She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church , Harrisburg and is survived by cousins, Mary Jane Werner of Stratham , NH and Clark Thomas of Richmond , VA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 11:00 am in Fackler-Wiedeman Funeral Home, 23 rd & Derry Streets, Harrisburg with Rev. Walter L. Hafer, her Visitation Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in East Harrisburg Cemetery . There is no viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church , 124 So. 13 th St. , Harrisburg , PA 17104 .
