Joseph E. Carey, 74, of Lower Swatara Township , Middletown , died Sunday, March 28, 2010. He was a retired Auditor for the PA Department of Auditor General and a retired Korean War veteran of the US Air Force. Joe was a member of Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Middletown , Msgr. George V. Lentocha Council 3501 Knights of Columbus, Middletown , Bishop J. W. Shanahan Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Past Commander of the DAV Chapter 48, Hershey, Service Officer for VFW Post 8638, Highspire, and a member of American Legion Post 594, Middletown . Joe was born July 22, 1936 in Girardville to John J. and Clara M. Moran Carey. He attended St. Joseph 's Grade School and was a graduate of Girardville High School , Ford School of Business and Harrisburg Area Community College . He is survived by his wonderful wife, Constance R. Carey; one stepson, John Anthony Jones and his wife, Maryann; two step granddaughters, Amanda and Victoria; his Aunt, Betty Moran; a special cousin, Rev. Leo P. Oswald; and many other cousins, family members and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 5, 2010 at 11:00 am in Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Race & Conewago Streets, Middletown with Rev. Louis P. Ogden, his Pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military honors. A viewing will be held on Monday from 10:00 until 11:00 am in his church. Arrangements are being handled by Wiedeman Funeral Home, Steelton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Administration Medical Center , 1700 So. Lincoln Ave. , Lebanon , PA 17042 .
